ABOUT THE PDC PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS

Also known as the BetMGM Premier League Darts, the 2025 Premier League Darts is an event hosted by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) going into its 21st anniversary this year. Each week from February 6th to May 29th, a new event is featured in a different location across Europe. It is considered part of the darts Triple Crown, which consists of the three most prestigious darts tournaments also including the World Championship and the World Matchplay.

Originally, when the Premier League Darts first started in 2005, only seven players were qualified to compete in the tournament until 2013 when the lineup was expanded to 10 players. During 2019 and 2020, the game switched up once again when 9 main players were invited to compete alongside 9 guest challengers. While the original 9 players would earn league points for winning matches against these challengers, the challengers themselves would only earn financial bonuses if they won the match. It wasn't until 2022 when the number of players reduced once more to 8 players total and it has stayed the same since. The schedule of events has also evolved over time, going from a fortnightly event (occurring every 2 weeks) to a weekly event running from February until May.

PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS FORMAT

The format for the Premier League Darts tournament has stayed the same since 2022 featuring an eight-person knockout each night where the winner must be the first to reach 11 legs. All 8 players will have the chance to battle one another once during the first 7 weeks, and then again during events 9 through 15. It's an exciting darts format that keeps the games interesting through each event!

WHERE TO WATCH THE PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS

PDCTV is the best place to watch the 2025 Premier League Darts since the PDC streams all of their own events. The only caveat is that you'll need to subscribe to PDCTV for £9.99 a month, or approximately $12.50, in order to access the livestreams. Sky Sports will also be providing coverage of the event through their website for a subscription cost of £20 per month, or approximately $25.

DAZN used to stream the event on their platform in previous years, specifically to US and Canada viewers; however, users have noticed that the sport was recently pulled from their website a few weeks ago. This means that you'll have to get the "Rest of the World" subscription from PDCTV to watch all 17 of the Premier League Darts events.

PLAYER LINEUP

Of the 8 players competing in this year's Premier League Darts, the current top 4 players of the PDC Order of Merit are automatically qualified to play in the events, including recent World Champion Luke Littler. The remaining 4 players are considered wild card picks and were selected live on Sky Sports News last month. Read a bit more about each of the Premier League Darts competitors and some of their best achievements in the event below:

LUKE LITTLER

Luke Littler will be returning to the 2025 Premier League Darts to defend his champion title from last year! He fought an intense battle against Luke Humphries and ended up winning 11-7, hitting a legendary 9-darter along the way. Many fans are eager to see how the World Champion will perform after his much-celebrated victory at the World Darts Championship back in January.

His current rank on the PDC Order of Merit is #2 right behind Luke Humphries, making him one of four players to be automatically qualified for the 2025 Premier League Darts.

LUKE HUMPHRIES

Luke Humphries made his Premier League Darts debut back in 2024 and will be returning to this year's event for another chance at the title. Though he faced some tough crowds during the first few events of the tournament, he made a name for himself at the Premier League Darts by landing 2nd place after Luke Littler and donating raffle proceeds to the Rob Burrow Foundation, a charity that aims to support motor neurone disease awareness.

Currently, Humphries stands tall at #1 on the PDC Order of Merit, automatically earning his spot at the 2025 Premier League Darts.

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN

Out of all other competitors, Michael van Gerwen is the only player to have a whopping 7 wins from previous Premier League Darts tournaments up his sleeve. He earned his most recent title back in 2023 where he won 11-5 against Gerwyn Price. Because of his long standing legacy with the Premier League Darts, fans are eager to see if MVG will claim yet another champion title this year.

MVG ranks number 3 on the PDC Order of Merit currently, right after Luke Humphries and Luke Littler.

2016 PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS - WORLD RECORD AVERAGE

At the 2016 Premier League Darts, MVG broke records once again with a 123.4 three-dart average thrown against Michael Smith. To this day, MVG continues to hold this world record for all televised matches.

ROB CROSS

Rob Cross, a five-time veteran of the Premier League Darts tournament from 2018 through 2021 and 2024, is set to return in this year's event starting on February 6th. The Voltage has yet to win a Premier League champion title but still made waves at the 2019 Premier League Darts as the event runner-up against Michael van Gerwen.

He is the fourth and last competitor to have earned his spot in the 2025 Premier League Darts as one of the top 4 players in the world.

STEPHEN BUNTING

Returning to the Premier League Darts tournament after a few years, Stephen Bunting is eager to show fans what he can do as the world's number 5 player. His debut appearance back in 2015 only yielded an 8th place win for Bunting, and he only played for a single night as a challenger during the 2020 event.

Prepare for The Bullet's comeback with this inspirational pre-match interview Bunting conducted back in 2020.

GERWYN PRICE

Along with Bunting, Gerwyn Price is another wild card selection picked by Sky Sports News. Price has been a frequent competitor in Premier League Darts events since 2018 (except in 2021 when he withdrew his participation), with his most impressive finish as the 2023 runner-up against Michael van Gerwen. We're curious to see how The Iceman will perform this year after his 7th place in last year's event.

CHRIS DOBEY

Chris Dobey began his Premier League Darts career as a challenger back in 2019 and 2020 before making a full-time debut in 2023 against familiar opponents like Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen. He started off slow with first-round losses for the first 6 nights of the 2023 Premier League Darts until night 7 where he became the first player to ever whitewash MVG in the Premier League with a 6-0 win. The event concluded with Dobey landing a 7th place finish right after Dimitri van den Bergh.

NATHAN ASPINALL

Last but certainly not least, Nathan Aspinall makes his return to the Premier League Darts this year after being selected as a wild card pick. He made his first Premier League appearance back in 2019 where he played as a challenger. In the following two years, his performance skyrocketed as he finished as a runner-up in the 2020 event and a semi-finalist in 2021. His 2023 and 2024 appearances ended with a 5th place for The Asp and he hopes to take another chance at the crown this year with a renewed excitement.
