Leonard Gates Darts Range by Winmau - Product Review

Prior to his darts legacy, Leonard “Soulger” Gates pursued a professional athletic career as a Minor League Baseball player on teams like the Abilene Prairie Dogs and Catskill Cougars. It wasn't until the 2000s that Leonard turned an side hobby into a professional darts career, earning his worldwide presence by beating Paul Lim at the Dartslive Event #3 and winning his first major soft tip title.

Rapidly climbing his way upwards to become one of the most successful and well-known darts players in America, Leonard went on to consistently take titles at numerous tournaments across the US, including the CDC Circuit, US Darts Masters, North American Championship, and more. 

As of August, Leonard has forged a new future for his dart career by signing with Winmau as they aim to venture further into the American darts world.

The Leonard Gates darts barrel design is reminiscent of Soulger's old signature darts as it adopts the same color scheme and a black Onyx coating to complete the sleek aesthetic of this range.

Many axial cuts offset the wide spaced radial bands seen across the barrel, making it incredibly grippy in your hand. This design is the perfect embodiment of the 3 most popular American darts preferences: long, straight and aggressive!

Every Leonard Gates darts barrel is made from 90% tungsten metal makeup. This is a common theme amongst many other top Winmau player darts as the higher percentage of tungsten gives the barrel a more dense and slimmer feel without compromising weight and durability.

Paying tribute to Soulger's legendary status as one of the most successful American darts players, the Leonard Gates darts edition flights are themed with red, white and blue stars and the American flag.

These special flights are new additions to the Winmau Prism Zeta flights collection and are made from an extra thick, translucent, poly metronic material that'll guarantee endurance and high performance.

Keeping it classic, Winmau used their top performing Vecta shafts to complement the Leonard Gates darts range. Each shaft is made with high-impact polycarbonate material with an alloy tip, ensuring these shafts are durable and effective. 

These shafts enhance the rest of the dart's design with a similar sleek black coating and the signature Vecta logo printed along the side.

Leonard earned his second win of this season after taking home the Winmau Blade 6 Championship title right after his grand win at the World Seniors Darts Tour Championship. 

In a much anticipated battle, Leonard Gates and David Cameron went face-to-face for the Blade 6 Championship title and a “rematch of the second-round (and instant classic) match between the two Titans of Tungsten at the Seniors." 

Securing his reputation as a dominant force on the WSDT circuit, Gates kicked off his new Winmau partnership with a major victory at the World Seniors Matchplay in September. He was the first ever player to complete a “hat-trick” by winning three televised events in a row. 

When interviewed about his victory, Leonard stated, “To pull off three in a row, I’ve definitely got a target on my back for the rest of the year and next year.”
